Sisters, Salt, & Dragons Cast
Faces to names! Check out some of my inspiration for individual characters from my novel.
Adam Alexander
From DAY ONE I envisioned Adam Alexander as being played by Zachary Levi: an actor with incredible talent, charisma, humor, and just totally an amazing guy.
I think he'd capture Adam's charm, respect for a very strong-willed Estel, and--most of all--be fully capable of winning hearts/minds with his earnestness.
I literally wrote this role SPECIFICALLY with Zachary Levi in mind. When "Pizza Girl" is fangirling over Adam, she lists a few of his movie credits, all of which are plays on his current acting career.
Most notably, the Campbells jokingly call him "Superspy." This is a nod to one of my FAVORITE roles Zachary Levi has portrayed as adorkable computer nerd/superspy in Chuck.
I can say that Adam WILL be in subsequent books and WILL CONTINUE to be important to the characters in Sisters, Salt, and Dragons.

Damian Williams
We can't have an adventure story without a decent villain. Of course the larger part of "Sisters, Salt, and Dragons" involves Hope & company dealing with dragons. BUT there is also some tension between Estel, and the Guild's acting leader, Damian.
I actually had a REALLY hard time envisioning who I wanted to play Damian. Her character changed so many times and I just couldn't seem to get past a, well, "Bond" style villain.
ONLY being suave, rich, and confident wasn't just going to cut it. I wanted our antagonist to be believable. To exist in a morally grey area. To challenge Hope/Estel in ways we don't see coming.
I wanted someone charismatic, earnest, and dangerous because she believes she is doing the right thing, she isn't evil or necessarily ambitious for power's sake. She knows she has the ability to improve lives around her, but is also absolutely someone willing to choose the "lesser of two evils" or justifying the means to an end.
Sonequa Martin-Green TOTALLY swept me away recently in the Star Trek: Discovery series. Although she has many acting creds under her belt, her turn as Commander Michael Burnham TOTALLY made me fall in love with her.
Damian is supposed to be someone who makes perfect sense as a future leader in "Sisters, Salt, and Dragons." She is someone who has the experience, the knowledge, the trust of those around her... so her plans for the future come as a total surprise to everyone. (Which is all I can say without getting into spoilers).
And if you are even remotely a Sci-Fi or Star Trek fan, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Discovery! It's AMAZING.
